2012 SUP Awards
The Public Works was approached by Grind Media earlier in the year to design awards for the 2012 SUP Awards. This was on the heels of completing another set of awards for the 2012 Powder Awards (another Grind Media subsidiary). We truthfully went into this project not knowing much about stand up paddle boarding, but through the help of the team at Grind Media, we came away with a better understanding of the sport and the passion SUP athletes possess.
The Grind Media team wanted a design…

Colorado Freeride Festival awards
After spending the past five years at Winter Park Resort, Crankworx moved on to focus on other locations. However, our good friend Bob Holme was not going to let that stop WP from hosting the summer’s premiere mountain bike event in Colorado. They in turn created the Colorado Freeride Festival, a fresh take on the comp of year’s past.
We’ve been fortunate to design and fabricate the awards for Crankworx and WP the past five years, and this summer was no different for CFF.…

Oakley OPJ trophy
After completing the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge (OSSC) championship trophy and OSSC Regional trophies, Oakley asked us to build a trophy for this year’s Oakley Pro Junior (OPJ) in Japan. Since we knew this trophy was going to be awarded on site in Japan, we looked to classic Japanese architecture and culture…

Whole Foods Market Sampling Bike Car
Whole Foods Market came to The Public Works looking for an innovative way to support and market their events, while simultaneously providing samples of their products. Our solution: a custom-designed and custom-built human-powered bike car with a trailer. The bike car saw serious use in the Roaring Fork Valley near Aspen, where it was used to announce the grand opening of an entirely new store in Basalt. The bike car is currently configured to be a trail mix / granola sampling bar. The reaction…

Retail pieces at Norski Sport Rental
In a testament to our new website and the scope of work that we do, we were contacted by Norski Sport Rental in Keystone after they found our services on the internet. They were interested in having us build some pieces for their store, as they were set to double the size of the shop, beginning with the 2012 Summer season.
After designing a 3D model of the entire store, we set to work on Phase 1, a new cash wrap and three workbenches. We recently finished the install, and here’s some…

The Cell Phone Garage
The Cell Phone Garage was a unique project we completed last year. It was custom designed and fabricated by The Public Works for a high security aerospace company. Any guest who entered their facility needed to check in their mobile device as a security precaution. With that in mind, they wanted a cool-looking, aerospace inspired, and functional piece to accomplish this task. Through the use of hand brushed metal and laser etched plastic, both towers came to life. The top of the each unit rotates…

TPW Displays Sierra Designs’ Down at the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show
The Public Works recently designed and fabricated a custom display to showcase a new Sierra Designs product at this year’s Outdoor Retailer Trade Show—the leading outdoor industry trade event.
Sierra Designs, outdoor equipment and apparel innovator since 1965, has introduced the game-changing DriDown™ insulation in sleeping bags and jackets (available June 2012). Apparently, thanks to Sierra Designs’ “proprietary molecular level polymer application” each individual down plume…

Supple hits Plainfield, Indiana
The Plainfield Library in Plainfield, Indiana was our latest Supple Collection install and also one of our biggest to date. An entire tractor-trailer of furniture made right here in our shop was loaded up and shipped out. Five TPW crew members then flew out to do the final assembly and installation. Pieces from the Supple Collection are now installed in several libraries in Colorado, Georgia, Texas and Indiana.
New portfolio book!
80 pages, steel front and back cover and the printing looks beautiful.
HUGE thanks to Asuka book for the above and beyond customer service, quick turn times, and quality product!
Quote on cover under DVD:
A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing,…

MiniBook
We’re proud of our portfolio book. It’s big, shiny, and heavy… but it’s also expensive.
When we show it off we inevitably get asked if we can give them away and, as much as we’d like our work to be on display everywhere, it’s just too expensive.
With a couple of weeks left before SIA (the snow industry tradeshow in Vegas) we decided to design a take-down of the book that we could feel good about giving away.
This is what we came up with… It’s got a laser cut,…
