2012 SUP Awards
The Public Works was approached by Grind Media earlier in the year to design awards for the 2012 SUP Awards. This was on the heels of completing another set of awards for the 2012 Powder Awards (another Grind Media subsidiary). We truthfully went into this project not knowing much about stand up paddle boarding, but through the help of the team at Grind Media, we came away with a better understanding of the sport and the passion SUP athletes possess.
The Grind Media team wanted a design…

Colorado Freeride Festival awards
After spending the past five years at Winter Park Resort, Crankworx moved on to focus on other locations. However, our good friend Bob Holme was not going to let that stop WP from hosting the summer’s premiere mountain bike event in Colorado. They in turn created the Colorado Freeride Festival, a fresh take on the comp of year’s past.
We’ve been fortunate to design and fabricate the awards for Crankworx and WP the past five years, and this summer was no different for CFF.…

Oakley OPJ trophy
After completing the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge (OSSC) championship trophy and OSSC Regional trophies, Oakley asked us to build a trophy for this year’s Oakley Pro Junior (OPJ) in Japan. Since we knew this trophy was going to be awarded on site in Japan, we looked to classic Japanese architecture and culture…

2012 Red Bull Gamebreakers Championship Trophies
Red Bull Game Breakers is very simply put — “Football with More Game!” It’s high school football, Red Bull style. This seven on seven tournament, consisting of sixteen regional qualifiers and one final in Dallas, will no doubt separate the players from the “game breakers” and give the best teams in the region (who might not otherwise have the chance to play each other) the opportunity to compete.
After completing the awards last year in 2011, we were asked…

Summer Red Bull trophies
It’s summer again, and of all the things Summer brings, athletic and cultural events are usually on top of everyone’s list. Red Bull is no exception, putting on regional qualifying events for two of their biggest traditional sporting events, King of the Rock and Gamebreakers.
In the last month alone, we’ve built the regional trophies for this year’s King of the Rock and Gamebreakers events. We also built the full set of trophies for the finals of the Southeast Karting…

Oakley Surf Shop Challenge Regional Champion Trophies
For the second year in a row, Oakley asked The Public Works to design and build trophies for the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge (OSSC). Having loved the national champion trophy that we created in 2011, this year Oakley asked us to create the regional champion trophies. Keeping with the feel of the locale of this year’s national championship event—Bali, Indonesia—we created trophies to look like they were made of driftwood: a panel with weathered boards. And, in the true style…

Oakley Torpedo Trophy
We love that our clients never cease to amaze us with their creativity and projects they come to us with. So when Oakley asked for a trophy that “looks like a torpedo” for a surf contest we just got cracking. We managed to find a WWII tail section of a torpedo and fixed that up nice. We then fabricated a custom stand out of aluminum to match the aesthetic feel. Tags were added for all the previous winners of the event with plenty of space left for this trophy to be passed from champion to…

Kastle Skis Dealer Trophies
Kastle came to us recently to work on several projects tying directly to their dealer network. The first one completed is a trophy for their four best dealers.
We based the design off the brand guidelines and added the oval cutout which is based off the Hollowtech technology in the skis. The final pieces are a mix of acrylic, laser cutting, laser etching and custom-made aluminum hardware.
The image is Kastle skier Chris Davenport…

Trophies, Tornadoes, Beer and Biking
Crankworx, one of the biggest mountain bike festivals in the world, came to Colorado last week for the third consecutive year and we were asked to design and create the trophies.
We’ve been designing and building the trophies for Crankworx since the festival came to Colorado. The past two years we had incorporated laser cut, laser etched Plexiglas but this year we wanted to do it as eco-friendly as we possibly could.
