Oakley Surf Shop Challenge Regional Champion Trophies
For the second year in a row, Oakley asked The Public Works to design and build trophies for the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge (OSSC). Having loved the national champion trophy that we created in 2011, this year Oakley asked us to create the regional champion trophies. Keeping with the feel of the locale of this year’s national championship event—Bali, Indonesia—we created trophies to look like they were made of driftwood: a panel with weathered boards. And, in the true style of The Public Works, we avoided the traditional route of imprinting art onto the panels with paint or a flatbed print; instead we laser-etched each panel. In the end, the laser-etching created trophies that were unique to each of the regional venues, with no two trophies alike in look or feel.
Last weekend, the first of the OSSC’s regional qualifying events was held in Cardiff, California. We thought we’d share some photos of the winners with their one-of-a-kind trophies:
