In order to shoot a campaign for Spyder and Dick’s Sporting Goods, we were “forced” to travel to Julia Mancuso’s summer home in Paia, Maui. Being a World Cup alpine ski racer, Julia’s travel, competition and training schedule would crush most people. So, once The Public Works met up with Julia, we needed to jockey around her schedule which included several hours of training in the morning and several hours of outdoor activities in the afternoon. We were happy to oblige. Though focused and disciplined about being one of the best female ski racers in the world, Julia was incredibly laid back and it was easy for us to work with her.

Although in Hawaii, we weren’t trying to capture beaches and palm trees in our photo shoot. Thankfully, Maui proved to be an ideal and amazing shoot location, allowing us outdoor scenes that could have been anywhere in the world. We shot photos of Julia in the rain forest, on top of a volcano with 70 MPH winds blowing us around, and at an organic farm and coffee roaster, O’o Farm. Ultimately, we were all stoked on the results. And, if forced to do that commute to work again, we will.
